Happy Thanksgiving from our family at P.L. Lyons Custom Building and Remodeling

Our team here at P.L. Lyons Inc, which includes myself, (Perry Lyons) my wife Linda, and our right hand man and superintendent Buck Steinbach, want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. Take some time this week to count your blessings. Take some time and relate with your family and friends. Take some time and be thankful for your freedoms. Guys get your share of football. Ladies get your share of shopping. Everyone get your share of good eats. Enjoy the change in seasons. Some people never get to see a leaf fall, a snow flake, a bloom in spring, or … Read more

Louisville Winterizing Tips — It’s Getting Cold Again

It’s November and we have been spared the snow and extreme cold to date. As we near the threshold of those cold windy days, there are some things you need to do to prevent a disaster. This time of year, just as in the spring, we experience several calls about outside faucets leaking. That usually means someone has forgotten to disconnect the hose on the nights we have a light freeze. Why does this happen? First of all, most faucets are not designed to allow a hose to remain connected during a freeze. Even a “frost proof” faucet is not … Read more

Rocky Pusateri of Elite Homes talks about 2012 Homearama at Shakes Run

Rocky Pusateri of Elite Homes talks about many of the benefits of building a Homearama home in 2012 at Shakes Run. We figure Rocky hit on all the high points, so we’ll list the bullets here and you can watch the quick video for the rest. He summarizes it well as he usually does. Shakes Run gives you the feel of the country (think Spencer or Shelby county but without the bedroom community feel) but has the city life within three miles at the Gene Snyder in Middletown (think churches, Target, Kroger, schools, and restaurants like Wild Eggs). A home … Read more

Groundbreaking event at A Winning Smile Dental

PL Lyons has recently broke ground on a new commercial construction project for A Winning Smile Dental Center. The process actually started about a year ago, but we were challenged somewhat with different zoning regulations and stipulations. We’ve worked hard to get everything squared away and we now officially have the building permits in hand. The pictures and video below show the initial demolition that took place as well as where the actual new addition will stand. Stay tuned as we document the progress of this job up to its finishing stages. We look forward to working with Dr. Witte … Read more

Looking at building a Louisville custom home? There are some cool communities in the area

Maybe you’re one of the lucky people out there who already knows exactly what neighborhood you want to live in, what type of house you’re looking to build, and everything else is just details. Doesn’t sound quite like your situation? Don’t worry, that’s actually not the case for most people. In fact, the process of deciding to build a custom home, choosing the perfect neighborhood, and finding the right custom home builder doesn’t always come easy. Louisville offers some great neighborhoods in many different locations around town, so no matter what end of the city you want to live in, … Read more

Staying busy: a list of our current projects

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I tweet out a lot of industry information like housing starts, mortgage rate information, real estate statistics, and much more. If you’d like to build a new house, a Homearama contract, or look into a remodeling project, we’re here to help. In the meantime, we thought we’d update you on a few of the current and future projects we have going. If … Read more

Should you refinance to a 15-year mortgage?

It sounds great, doesn’t it? Being able to pay off your mortgage in a fraction of the time by refinancing to a shorter-term loan. In just 15 years, you could own your home outright, build equity faster, and free up thousands of dollars you would otherwise be paying in interest over the course of a 30-year mortgage. The money you save on interest could go toward money for retirement, college, or even a wedding. But can you afford it? Even though you might be able to afford the higher monthly payment, there are some other things to consider: Would you … Read more

Q&A with Perry: I am looking at buying a developer-owned lot, should I get a soil impaction test?

Here’s a question that was recently submitted through our website, along with my personal response. We appreciate your questions, comments, and interactions on our site. If there’s a question you have, I encourage you to ask me. Question: I am looking at buying a developer-owned lot to build a new home on. The lot is sloped and I will plan on building a half basement. I was talking to a builder three lots from mine and he said that he had to remove excess fill dirt to get to the sub grade to pour foundation. This was an extra cost … Read more

Custom sun room and deck in East Louisville

We’ve shared a couple of videos before on this project in Winchester Acres in east Louisville. The sun room is now complete and the homeowners have done a nice job with the finishing details. The second video shows the deck we completed for the homeowners a while back. It’s a Trex product and nicely connects to the sun room. We’re always excited and honored to work with repeat customers. If you have a custom building or remodeling question or are thinking about starting a project, contact us. We’d love to work with you on your next building or remodeling job. … Read more

Custom home in Shakes Run is near completion

These three videos show the progression of a custom home we’re building in the Shakes Run subdivision in Louisville, KY. As you can see, the first video shows the crew preparing for the basement to be poured. Just a couple of weeks into the project, the framing is underway, and within three weeks, the house is framed, roofed, and ready for brick. This project is wrapping up as we speak. We’ll be sure to post a video once everything is complete. The homeowner, Mike Menkhaus, is actually a repeat customer. We built a custom home for Mike a few years … Read more
