We may still have some warm months before the fall is here, but it is the perfect time to start preparing for the cooler months now. Doing a few things now will save you time and money later.
Have your furnace checked
You may be looking at your cooling bills and thinking how you can shave some costs now, but don’t forget that you should be thinking about having a professional look at your furnace before the cold weather shows up.
Cap those gutters
Most of us wait until the leaves have fallen and the first fall rains reveal that our gutters are clogged. Invest a little money now in a gutter cap product and greatly reduce your labor in the fall. There are many do-it-yourself products that fit easily into most gutter systems and work really well. Ask your local hardware store for recommendations.
Combine efforts with neighbors
Do you have a stump that needs grinding or need to rent a specialty tool? Odds are your neighbors may have the same needs. Combine resources and rent those items together. By sharing the cost and helping each other with projects, you’ll save money and complete the job faster. Need a dumpster? Ask the neighbors if they need to get rid of any bulky items and share the cost.
Buy in bulk
Ready to mulch the beds again? Don’t go buy bag after bag of mulch when, for much much less, you can have mulch delivered to your door by the truck load. Coordinate with neighbors and share this expense too. After doing this one you will begin making a habit of it. Not only will you save time and money, but you get to know your neighbors better too.
Good luck getting your home ready for fall and winter!
