For the last two years Perry Lyons, one of our owners and partners here at P.L. Lyons Architectural Builders, has lead a team of students from Shelby County High School in a national building competition. Last year the team placed 3rd in the competition.
This year we had another great showing, and are so proud of our students, mostly underclassman, for winning 4th place (out of 34) in the construction technology program at the International Builder’s show in Las Vegas! The show just wrapped up last week. It’s an international event for those in the homebuilding industry.
The students started training back in September, meeting with Perry every Monday and Thursday. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication. They are going to make great future builders! The first 3 places in the competition were awarded to technology schools that had been working on their projects for a whole year, so the chapter has a lot to be proud of for taking home 4th this year.
This is the second year that Perry has coached this group of high schoolers, and he plans to continue working with students for as long as he can. He’s a great teacher, and we love seeing him pass on his expertise to the next generation of builders.
Everybody had a great time in Las Vegas. Below is a picture of the team enjoying a meal together after the competition. The kids got to sample a cuisine they had never tried before–rack of lamb!
Stay tuned for Perry’s next blog on the regulatory and financial changes in the building industry!
