Big changes are on the horizon in 2014, not only for custom home builder Perry Lyons, but for the Home Builders Association of Louisville (HBAL) as well. After nearly 40 years of involvement with the organization, Perry has climbed each step of the leadership ladder from Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President, and will now take over as President in 2014.
Along the Way
In addition to his lengthy stint in leadership with the HBAL, Perry also brings vast experience in serving and teaching, as he has chaired the Codes and Standards Committee for about 10 years, served on the Education Committee for approximately 15 years, has taught advanced estimating and specification writing classes for over 16 years, and is currently serving on the Land Development Committee. After serving on the Board of Directors for three years, Perry submitted his name for leadership at the recommendation of his fellow members. After going through an interview process and approval by the executive board, Perry was named President for the upcoming year.
Changing With the Times
As the baton is passed this year and the leadership once again changes faces, evolution is also in store for the HBAL. First up on the order of business; a name change. The HBAL will officially change its name to the Business Industry Association of Greater Louisville (BIA of Greater Louisville). Perry believes that this new name more fully encompasses the organization and its varied interests. Although the rich heritage of the organization will remain in tact, the organization itself has diversified.
Perry explains: “Generational differences are impacting our workplace characteristics, our personal interaction, and our communication and leadership styles. We have to understand and embrace these changes to successfully work together.”
A Man With a Plan
Perry explains that he plans to build the future of the BIA by combining the wisdom and experiences of the older generations with the ambitions, eagerness, and visions of the younger generations. As President, Perry is committed to continual representation in an ever-changing market, allowing customers’ wants and needs to be met by designing, developing, and completing their dreams.
In addition to a strong customer commitment, Perry is also eager to fully engage organization members to be an advocate for even more people by utilizing their wisdom and knowledge to make a difference in how the building industry moves forward in the future.
