The style of this house is English Manor and the design shines with features such as reclaimed beams, custom tile pieces, stained wood work, and cast stone decorative pieces. This house is located in Harrod’s Glen, one of the nicest subdivisions in Louisville, and was completed in early 2015.
The family wanted their house designed around an open-air courtyard, a feature often found in India that allows the rain and air to come down in the middle of the house.
We wanted to design their home to reflect their architectural heritage, a home that would break with conventional design and be meaningful to the family.
For practical reasons, we installed a large custom skylight that would filter light down through two floors of living space, but would protect the court yard from bad weather. The family hoped that their home would remind them of their Indian culture.
The skylight design was exactly that type of feature and got everyone really excited about the project.
