From Concept to Completion- The Design/Build Difference

Louisville architectThe start of a new year and on into spring brings about a sense of renewal in most people. You might declutter your home, clean out your closets, or if you’re like many homeowners in our area, you start thinking about building your forever home.

The housing market typically gains momentum after the holidays and especially beginning in March and April. Seeing as we’re now only a few weeks away from spring means it’s time for P.L. Lyons and Robbins Architecture to start preparing for the busy year of custom building and design that’s awaiting us.

But let’s get back to you. If you are one of those spring cleaners who’s been contemplating building a new custom home, we have a few tips that will educate you on some options you might not have even thought about before. It’s something we call the design/build difference.

Architectural Services Coupled with Custom Home Building

Many times when people think about building, they might go online and search for plans, or contact a local custom home builder to start the process. That’s not a bad place to start, especially if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for and you want to get a good idea of what’s out there. If you find a builder you really like and he has some house plans that you think might work, chances are your builder will have to farm out any plan adjustments to an architectural firm. This could cause a lot of back and forth because the architect hasn’t heard first hand from you what you truly want. Having a middle man relaying information can sometimes cause a delay in the process and end up costing more money if revisions continue to be made.

On the flip side, maybe you’ve already worked closely with an architect to draw up a set of custom home plans that you truly love. Well, now what? It’s always best to include a builder in the design phase so he has a good idea of what the end goal is. What if the plans you had from the designer don’t work on the lot you’ve chosen? Or, you design a house that you can’t really afford to build? Having designs that don’t work will certainly cost you money and time.

Because of our partnership with P.L. Lyons, Robbins Architecture doesn’t have to worry about these scenarios. We have a designer and builder under one roof. Our design/build difference means we offer construction services that work in tandem with our design services.Having a builder and architect together in the beginning makes it all go smoothly and may even save you money in the long run. It is truly a concept to completion model.

The design/build difference means you have one company to call for all your designing and building needs. This allows the building journey to be a little easier. So, when considering your new home, think about the design/build difference and what is can do for your future plans.Contact Robbins Architecture to learn more about our process.
