The Cissell house is located on a five acre lot off of Taylorsville Road in Louisville, KY. The large lot gave us freedom to explore some of the owners’ ideas that we could not achieve on a smaller city lot.They wanted a workshop to restore classic cars, one that blended in with the architecture of the house. The design solution was a porte cochere between two garages (see photo), so that they could park in either garage from the center of the porte cochere.

This covered space allows guests to park and unload out of the rain. It also acts as another work space to wash cars and work outside.

The owners fell in love with the French Country style and they were a joy to work with while creating this “Normandy” country home. Some of the custom pieces, such as the wrought iron roof cresting with fleur de lis and built-in window seats with pull out stairs for their dog, were unique features of our design.
