9,500sf. 6 beds, 9 baths. The client wanted a ranch large enough so the entire family could all be on one floor — this led us to a ranch plan that was, of course, very large. We decided to offset the length of the house by adding height to the center mass — this height created very dramatic spaces throughout the center of the house. We then located the kitchen and living areas in the center mass with bedrooms surrounding it. We also vaulted the family room ceiling and centered a round window in the vault with operating 4′ skylights. This allowed lots of light to flow into main living space of the home.
This is one of the most important ways to create beautiful, happy, spaces — bring in the natural light. We try to do this in the most dramatic ways we can on all our projects!
On the outside, the client requested a traditional Georgian look and feel of columns, red brick, black shutters, and white trim. We accomplished this plus added custom cast stone pieces over the windows and a 2′ tall cornice to add detail.
These are the types of projects we feel well-suited to design and build!
